I ran across a host that's seems pretty good and offers a really cheap basic package. If I do start the site up again I could also go with my old host - Bluehost which was actually pretty good. This time though, I'll be sure to back up the site every so often onto my external HD to make sure it doesn't get lost ever again.

It seems that I may do the site again but not too soon. I want to work slowly on things and be prepared before I go at it again. I would like to provide a great grand reopening kinda thing for the A.C. However, I think someone else snagged atheistcoalition.com and I may have to go with a .net or .info address.

Either way I'm going to find a strong, easy to look at and easy to navigate site design. If this messageboard gets some good traffic I'll export the information to the new site.

Again, though this is still a good bit away - maybe around this time next year I might be ready. But things can change....we'll see.

 Atheist Coalition - The Ressurection?
« Result #2 on Aug 18, 2008, 4:00pm »

Ressurection? Not quite.

For those who may not know, I started a website called Atheist Coalition a few years ago. It ran for a good two years but due to personal changes and financial issues I was unable to keep it going. I regret having to let the site die because it was becoming a great site and wonderful community. Other major sites have suffered a similar fate and the members have splintered off into new sites they have created.

Is this another go for Squid and the AC?

It might be, or it may never go past this free forum. I'm nearing completion of my graduate studies and have a bit more freetime than I used to - actually it fluctuates - I have a good amount of freetime and then I get caught up in working on my research and classes and I'm cramped for time. So I'll take it slow at first.

I want to make sure that if I do decide to go for another full site that I won't have to let it go down again. I want to give the members of that community not just a discussion forum but a completely interactive site like where the AC was originally headed with chatrooms, photo galleries, community contributed knowledge-base with articles and essays by members. I also would like to have our own wiki to go with the knowledgebase and maybe even the possibility of more structure "classes" utilizing classroom organizing software like those used by colleges for distance learning, taught by some of the experienced and knowledgeable members of the community.

Things I want to make sure of are that I choose a great design for the site - something that is easy to navigate and flows well as well as using a host that provides a great amount of space and transfer for a decent price.

But, for now we'll start small and work our way up. We'll work with these forums and see where we end up.
